Mental Health means something!
I wear this bracelet every day to remember what this world lost and to keep up the fight for positive mental health.
Angie Wallace and Wendy Morris are two founding members of Moms Breaking the Silence, a not-for-profit devoted to breaking the silence surrounding mental illness by providing mental health education and financial assistance in communities. I've known them both since our days on the kindergarten playground.
Angie and Wendy and their families lost beautiful, talented, incredible sons to suicide. Today, they work tirelessly to help prevent other families from experiencing a similar, life-changing loss and fight for mental health resources, which are often so scarce in rural areas.
Our kids are suffering. Our teachers are suffering. Our parents are suffering. In ways we often do not see. And, if we DO see them, most of us are at a loss at how to help. As your Maryville R2 School Board candidate, I look forward to exploring the resources our district has available and to discovering how to add to them.
How do you feel the district, the schools and/or classrooms are doing? What is working? What needs changed? What kind of resources are you thankful for or would like to see implemented?
